FACT SHEET

WHO

Seattle Pride is the 100-percent volunteer run not-for-profit organization which  produces the Seattle Pride Parade, Volunteer Park Pride Festival and other pride-related events and promotions, as well as providing grants and sponsorship support to community-based LGBTQ organizations statewide, and year-round advocacy in support of diversity, inclusivity and equal human rights for all.

WHAT

Volunteer Park Pride Festival – Kicking off Seattle’s month-long Pride celebration, the annual Festival is a showcase for queer arts, performance and culture. The event features a beer garden, food trucks, local crafts fair, sponsor and community nonprofit informational booths and live concert performances featuring headliner Thunderpussy, as well as Left at London, SassyBlack, Whitney Mongé and J GRGRY.

Seattle Pride Parade – Culminating Pride Month is the 45th annual Seattle Pride Parade,   the nation’s fourth largest Pride parade, attracting more than 400,000 parade-goers. The parade includes more than 200 participating groups and 60,000 individuals marching in support of LGBTQ pride. This year the parade will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, which became a national movement and eventually led to marches around the country, including the first Seattle Pride march in 1974 – which has been held in late June ever since to commemorate the June 28th Stonewall Riots. The 2019 Seattle Pride Parade Grand Marshals include Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, drag performer/actor/singer/comedian Jinkx Monsoon, as well as four organizations – Bailey-Boushay House, Camp Ten Trees, Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic and UTOPIA Seattle.

WHEN

The Volunteer Park Pride Festival is scheduled for noon-7pm on Saturday, June 8th, and  the Seattle Pride Parade is scheduled 11am-3:30pm on Sunday, June 30th.

WHERE

The Volunteer Park Pride Festival is held in Seattle’s Volunteer Park located at 1247 15th Avenue East on Capitol Hill, and the Seattle Pride Parade runs along 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle between Union Street & Denny Way.

The parade will also livestream on KIRO 7’s website and Facebook page, in addition to a one-hour special airing on KIRO 7 (Seattle Pride Parade’s Official TV Sponsor) at 11:35pm that evening.

WHY

Seattle Pride celebrates the LGBTQ community and its allies, but the events are designed as a community-wide show-of-support for diversity, mutual respect and inclusion, and equal human rights for all. The individual events focus on celebrating the present, envisioning the future and honoring the past.
